First Day School
First Day School is held on First, Third and Fifth Sundays, beginning at 10:30. On First and Third Sundays, the program begins in the meeting room with Family Meeting. All members and attenders of our Meeting are welcome to join in with Family Meeting, a lively, interactive, teacher-led program that includes all-age children.
Family Meeting ends shortly before 11 AM with a song to help the children settle into silence. The children then attend the first 15 minutes of Meeting for Worship before leaving at 11:15 AM for the Bassett House. The First Day School program concludes just after 12 noon, when the children rejoin their parents at the Meeting House.
On Fifth Sundays, the program begins with the peace vigil on the street in front of the Bassett House.
On Second and Fourth Sundays, the children attend Meeting for Worship from 11 AM to 11:15 AM and then move to the Bassett House for group
activities as part of a multi-age childcare program.
The pre-school curriculum follows the basic Quaker tenants of simplicity, peace, integrity, community, and equality through story, exploratory projects, and play. Older children also study Quaker history and Christian teachings with a curriculum that is tailored to their level of curiosity and understanding.
Infant and toddler care is offered
every Sunday.
